Brighton & Hove Albion pair Emma Koivisto and Nora Heroum have been called-up by Finland for their upcoming international friendly against Austria.
Anna Signeul’s side travel to Ritzing to face the Austrians at the Sonnenseestadion on Sunday 11 April.
The Finnish Football Association announced head coach Signeul’s 23-player squad for the upcoming camp this morning with Brighton & Hove Albion pair Koivisto and Heroum included. There were also places in the squad for Everton’s veteran goalkeeper Tinja-Riikka Korpela and London City Lionesses forward Juliette Kemppi.
Finland have already secured their place at next summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO in England after winning their qualification group. Signeul’s side saw off the threats of Portugal and Scotland to secure qualification with a game to spare. The upcoming friendly against Austria will therefore help the team progress in their preparation for what will be their first major tournament appearance in nine years.
Everton goalkeeper Korpela goes into the latest international window just three caps short of a century. Brighton & Hove Albion defender Koivisto has made 61 appearances at senior level while her club teammate Heroum has 76 senior caps to her name. London City Lionesses forward Kemppi has represented her nation on 55 occasions.
Finland are currently enjoying a five-game winning run and they have kept four consecutive clean sheets.
