Manchester United forward Toone determined to take England chance with both hands

Manchester United forward Ella Toone says that she is determined to take her chances to impress with England with both hands.

The 21-year-old Tyldesley-born goal machine scored on her senior England debut as the Lionesses saw off Northern Ireland 6-0 at St George’s Park in February and the player has again been selected for this month’s international friendlies against France and Canada by interim head coach Hege Riise.

Toone is one of 35 players being considered by Riise for Team GB duty at the Olympic Games this summer and the forward says that she is taking every opportunity to impress in the England squad with both hands.

“Because I am so young and so new to the environment, I just want to come here and enjoy every minute of it and leave no regrets,” Toone said in an England press conference in which FAWSL Full-Time were present. “Every time I come, I want to learn and show everything that I am about.

“It is a great opportunity and I have took it with both hands. When I come here, I just want to show what I can do and hopefully, the coaches can see what I am trying to do.

“I know what the coaches want from us on the pitch so I will go out into training and try to do that whether that’s making sure that every time I get the ball I face forward.

“It is just about enjoying every minute, keep working hard and putting in performances.”

England will come up against sides ranked in third place and eighth place in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings during the current international window and Toone said that she is looking forward to testing herself against premier opposition.

“It’s great for the team to be playing against tier one opposition,” she said. “Obviously, we didn’t have a game for over a year so now to have these two games is massive and is a building block.

“For me, it is great to play against some top opponents, to really push myself on the international stage.

“It is really exciting and it’s exciting for the team to show what we are capable of and show what we can do.”

Toone and her England teammates take on France in Caen on Friday before facing Canada at the bet365 Stadium in Stoke next Tuesday.
