Chelsea midfielder Jessie Fleming hit a sublime goal for Canada this evening as they defeated Wales 3-0 in an international friendly match in Cardiff.
The fixture saw two recently appointed head coaches go head-to-head in South Wales and it was Bev Priestman’s Canada side who ran out comfortable winners at the Leckwith Stadium.
Canada broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when a long ball forward fell into the path of midfielder Deanne Rose who emphatically lashed her shot into the top corner of the net.
Priestman’s side had to wait until the second half before being able to increase their advantage. Substitute Janine Beckie delivered an inch-perfect cross onto the boot of Evelyne Viens who beat home keeper Laura O’Sullivan from just a few yards. Canada then completed the scoring just four minutes later through Fleming. The Chelsea midfielder curled a sublime effort across the 18-yard box into the far top corner, a really impressive strike from the Canadian number 17.
The victory is Priestman’s second in charge of the Canadian national team. Her side will now face a much tougher test in their next match when they travel to the bet365 Stadium in Stoke to face England on Tuesday evening.
