Former Leicester City defender Johnson nets first goal in America

Former Leicester City defender Lucy Johnson netted her first goal for latest club the Arizona State Sun Devils in their 4-0 win against Siena yesterday.

The 19-year-old recently signed a scholarship with Sun Devils Soccer which will see her combine her studies with her football in the United States.

Johnson featured for the Arizona State Sun Devils from the start as they took on Siena in their first round match in the NCAA Tournament yesterday and she netted her first goal since going Stateside. With her side already leading the tie 1-0, the defender found the back of the net 11 minutes into the second period as the Arizona State Sun Devils went on to secure a four-goal success which sees them cruise into the next round.

Johnson was a member of the Leicester City side in their maiden campaign in the FA Women’s Championship in 2018/2019. She made eight league appearances during that season netting one goal. The player added a further nine FA Women’s Championship appearances to her tally last term.

The defender was set to join the Arizona State Sun Devils upon leaving Leicester City last year but the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in her initially staying in England. Johnson spent time with Nottingham Forest before finally moving to the United States  early this year.
