Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that speculation linking them with Jamaican international forward Khadija Shaw is just speculation, although he does admit that the club are looking at ways to improve their squad.
The 24-year-old forward has been strongly linked with a move to The Academy Stadium after netting 19 goals in just 16 appearances in the French Division 1 Feminine for Bordeaux this season.
With Shaw impressing for the third-best team in France, the player is naturally being tipped to make her mark for one of European football’s elite clubs in the future and it would be no surprise to see the forward move on this summer.
When speaking in a Manchester City press conference, head coach Taylor acknowledged that his side will always be linked with the world’s best players but said that there is no deal imminent for Bordeaux forward Shaw.
“Of course, we are always looking in the market for ways of improving our squad,” Taylor said. “That never stops, it has been constantly ongoing as I took the job, during the job and for the foreseeable future.
“I think we’re always going to be linked with top players but there is nothing else to comment on that. I don’t want to be disrespectful in talking about other clubs’ players.
“It’s one of those that is just speculation at the moment and I am sure that there will be plenty more between now and the end of the season.”
City have scored just two goals less than Chelsea in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this season but they have fallen short in the UEFA Women’s Champions League after being knocked out by Barcelona in the quarter-finals. Attacking additions would certainly help their bid to push on in Europe next season.
