Continuation of recent form key for Arsenal against Aston Villa – Montemurro

Arsenal boss Joe Montemurro says that his side will continue to aim to meet their goals against Aston Villa this afternoon even though a third-place finish is already in the bag.

The Gunners have nothing to play for against a Villa side who will be desperate to gain Barclays FA Women’s Super League survival but Montemurro says that his side won’t be letting up as they look to end the season strongly.

“They’re (Villa) are in a position which is a little bit different to us, the pressure is on,” Montemurro said when speaking in his pre-match press conference. “We have very little pressure but obviously, we want to achieve certain goals and get to that 50 points.

“We want to make sure that we finish the rest of the season in the way that we have been going over the last few weeks.

“We appreciate that they will be a bit more conservative in terms of not giving us much space in our attacking third but we’ve come up against that before and we just need to try to make sure that we do what we need to do.”

Montemurro will take charge of Arsenal for one last time in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this afternoon with the Australian set to return home at the end of the month. He went on to say that the game would be an emotional one for him personally.

“A lot of emotions are going through my mind at the moment,” said The Gunners boss. “The last league game at Boreham Wood and I’ll be thinking about all of the great things and amazing adventures that we have been on over the last three-and-a-half years.

“I really just want to enjoy these last couple of games and get the most out of spending some enjoyable time with the players and staff that have meant so much to me during my time here.”

Arsenal’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Aston Villa is scheduled to kick-off at 2.30pm and will be available for fans to stream live on the FA Player.
