United States internationals Sam Mewis and Rose Lavelle will leave Manchester City when their contracts at The Academy Stadium expire this summer, the club have confirmed.
Both players joined Manchester City on one-year deals last August and they have played their parts in the club’s successes in 2020/2021.
Mewis made 32 appearances in all competitions for The Cityzens, weighing in with 16 goals while United States national team colleague Lavelle has scored five goals in 26 outings. Both players were on target for Manchester City in their 5-1 victory over West Ham United in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup fifth round on Sunday as they made their final appearances for the club.
The scheduled departures of Mewis and Lavelle come straight off the back of Manchester City confirming that Republic of Ireland international defender Megan Campbell will also be leaving the club upon the expiry of her contract this summer. With a number of other contract talks ongoing, it is highly likely that there will be many more squad changes at The Academy Stadium throughout the summer.
In their time in England, Mewis and Lavelle won last season’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup while they have been members of a Manchester City side which finished the league campaign as runners-up and reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League, FA Women’s Continental League Cup and this season’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup.
