Former England international defender Paul Konchesky has been named the new assistant manager at West Ham United as reported on the club’s official website.
The 40-year-old East Londoner, who is a lifelong West Ham United fan, will assist manager Olli Harder during the 2021/2022 season.
Konchesky represented West Ham United during his playing career, making 71 appearances and scoring two goals. He was an FA Cup runner-up with The Hammers in 2005/2006.
With Konchesky having recently worked within the West Ham United Academy of Football, it has today been announced that he will move into an assistant manager role in the women’s team. Alongside manager Harder, Konchesky will hope to play his part in helping The Hammers enjoy a more successful campaign next season after the club flirted with relegation from the Barclays FA Women’s Super League in 2020/2021.
Speaking to West Ham United’s official media team following his appointment, Konchesky said “I’m really happy to be joining up with West Ham United women.
“It’s been different for me because I’ve been helping Olli out over the last five months since his arrival. I’ve had the chance to get to know the environment and how everything works, and I’ve really enjoyed it.
“When the opportunity came through from Olli to be his assistant manager, it was a no-brainer for me to work in a top league with some great players in a first-team environment.
“This is a new and exciting opportunity for myself, and I’m really excited to get going.”
With over 400 Premier League appearances and two senior England caps to his name, Konchesky has enjoyed a hugely successful playing career and he will be keen to pass on his knowledge to the West Ham United squad during his time working with the team.
