Lyon are being linked with a move for Arsenal midfielder Danielle van de Donk according to reports by French media outlet L’Equipe.
The 29-year-old Dutch international is nearing the expiry of her contract at Meadow Park and the player is said to have declined offers by The Gunners to remain in North London.
With Van de Donk possibly set to leave Arsenal, press reports in France have today indicated that the midfielder could be a target for Lyon. The former European champions are set to lose a handful of first team players this summer while the club will be keen to freshen things up with some new faces as they look to regain their UEFA Women’s Champions League crown next season.
Van de Donk joined Arsenal in 2015 following a short spell in Sweden with Goteborg FC. The midfielder was a Women’s FA Cup winner with The Gunners in her first season at Meadow Park before later going on to lift the FA Women’s Continental League Cup and the Barclays FA Women’s Super League trophy.
This season, Van de Donk featured in 21 of Arsenal’s 22 league fixtures as the club recorded a third-place finish in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League while she scored two goals.
Van de Donk is not the only player said to be attracting attention from Lyon. The French club are also rumoured to be closing in on a deal to sign Swedish international Fridolina Rolfo who is set to leave VfL Wolfsburg.
