Teenager Esther Morgan has capped a spectacular year by signing her first professional contract with childhood club Tottenham Hotspur according to reports on the club’s official website.
Morgan made her debut on the 28 February, filling in for the injured Ashleigh Neville as Spurs took on Everton at The Hive. Spurs’ form dipped during the following few games but Morgan’s performance each week was a highlight. Despite her young age, the right-back looked at home from the start and her confidence very quickly grew, going toe-to-toe with some of the best players in the league. She has also shown her strength going forward, making runs down the wing and through the middle of the park which often led to goalscoring opportunities.
The defender has come through the academy programme at Spurs and has been a life long fan of the club. She has endeared herself to the Spurs faithful with her committed perfomances, especially when she ran half the length of the pitch against Manchester City, wearing only one boot, to try and halt another City attack.
This season also saw Morgan make her senior debut for Wales having previously captained the Under-19 team.
Morgan has signed a one-year deal with Spurs with the option to extend for another year. There is no doubt that the youngster has an exciting future ahead of her and the club will be looking to involve her as much as possible next season and long into the future.
Speaking to Spurs’ official media sources after signing her deal, Morgan said “It’s a very proud moment for me and my family, it’s a dream come true. To have signed a contract is like the icing on top of the cake.”
