Bristol City have confirmed that club legend Loren Dykes is leaving them to take up a full-time position with the Welsh national team.
The 33-year-old former Welsh international defender retired from playing last summer and moved into an assistant coach role at Bristol City alongside manager Tanya Oxtoby.
Dykes played her part in Bristol City’s brave battle against relegation from the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this season, as well as helping the club to a first-ever FA Women’s Continental League Cup final appearance but she will now move on to a new challenge.
It has today been reported that Dykes will become assistant coach to new Wales head coach Gemma Grainger. Dykes will combine the role with overseeing the nation’s Under-17 programme.
As a player, Dykes spent 12 years representing Bristol. She joined the club in 2008 under their former identity of Bristol Academy and she helped them to record a runners-up position in the FA Women’s Super League 1 in 2013 as well as reaching two Women’s FA Cup finals. She also won a second tier promotion during her time with the club and represented them in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Dykes leaves Bristol City with the best wishes of the club.
