Everton goalkeeper Tinja-Riikka Korpela and Brighton & Hove Albion full-back Emma Koivisto have been called up by Finland head coach Anna Signeul for next month’s international camp in Spain.
Finland will contest international friendly matches against Poland on Friday 11 June and Russia on Monday 14 June. Both games will take place in Spain with a venue yet to be determined.
The Finnish Football Association announced Signeul’s 23-player squad for the camp earlier today with Everton goalkeeper Korpela and Brighton & Hove Albion defender Koivisto selected. Korpela could collect her 100th senior international camp during the upcoming international window if she appears in both games. Defender Koivisto has been capped by her country at senior level on 62 occasions.
In addition to the inclusions of Korpela and Koivisto, there are two other familiar faces in the Finland squad for fans of the English game. Departing Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Nora Heroum has been called-up while forward Juliette Kemppi has also been named in the squad on a day which has seen her departure from London City Lionesses confirmed.
Finland will use their matches against Poland and Russia to build momentum ahead of the start of their FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualifying campaign which begins in September. Signeul’s side have been drawn in a group with Sweden, Republic of Ireland, Slovakia and Georgia.
