Chelsea’s Carly Telford and Birmingham City’s Hannah Hampton have been included in Hege Riise’s 21-player squad for England’s June training camp.
Both players missed out on Team GB selection for this summer’s Olympic Games but they have been included for England duty next month.
The Football Association informed FAWSL Full-Time of Riise’s England selection via an official press release earlier today. The June camp will be a six-day camp held at the Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre.
In other squad news, Manchester City goalkeeper Karen Bardsley has been called up despite sustaining a suspected hamstring injury when representing loan club OL Reign yesterday. There are also places in the squad for Team GB reserves Sandy MacIver, Lotte Wubben-Moy, Niamh Charles and Ella Toone.
Speaking about her squad selection, Riise said “Whilst this is purely an England camp, it felt sensible to really focus now on preparations for the Olympics with the English players who have been selected for Team GB.
“Whilst England men begin their UEFA EURO campaign at St George’s Park, we are excited to be basing ourselves at Bisham Abbey and look forward to making full use of their acclimation chambers as part of our work to prepare players for the hot and humid conditions we will face in Japan.
“I also look forward to seeing Carly Telford and Hannah Hampton on this camp. They narrowly missed out on selection for Team GB but they both have very exciting futures with England as we look ahead to the home UEFA Women’s EURO next summer and the FIFA Women’s World Cup beyond that.”
