Sheffield United have announced that versatile teenager Charley Docherty has penned her first professional contract with the club.
The 18-year-old has committed her future to Neil Redfearn’s side for the 2021/2022 season.
Sheffield United announced the news earlier this afternoon in an official club press release.
Docherty joined the South Yorkshire club at the age of 13 and began training with the first team back in September. She then went on to make her senior debut in the 2-1 defeat at eventual FA Women’s Championship title-winners Leicester City earlier this year. The youngster will be hoping for more chances to impress in the first team next season as Sheffield United aim to push towards promotion.
After signing her first professional deal at Sheffield United, Docherty said “It feels unreal. It feels like a lot of hard work is definitely starting to pay off. I think over the last year is where I’ve made most of my development as a player.”
The news comes fresh off the back of Sophie Walton’s decision to commit her future to Sheffield United with the player having signed a new contract just yesterday. Walton will also be taking on a coaching role with the club and will therefore be one of those overseeing Docherty’s development with the first team.
