Leicester City defender Plumptre pens new two-year deal

Leicester City defender Ashleigh Plumptre has signed a new two-year contract with the club according to reports on The Foxes’ official website.

The 23-year-old Leicester-born centre-back featured in all-but-one of her side’s FA Women’s Championship fixtures this season as Leicester City secured a first promotion to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

With Plumptre being a key member of the Leicester City side it has been confirmed that the player has committed her future to the club until the end of the 2022/2023 season. The defender becomes the first player to sign a new deal with The Foxes since they sealed their promotion in April.

Speaking to Leicester City’s official media team after signing her new contract, Plumptre said “This is my hometown club and to have achieved what we have in my first full season of being here was amazing.

“Being around the city that I grew up in and being around my family for at least another two years, being at a club that has provided so much for all of us on the women’s side already. I can’t complain, there’s nothing else I could ask for really.”

Plumptre joined Leicester City in early 2020 following spells in the United States with USC Trojans and LA Galaxy OC. The defender will play in the top tier of English football next season for the first time since 2015 when she was at former club Notts County.
