Newly-promoted FA Women’s Championship club Watford have completed their first signing of the summer with the addition of forward Amber-Keegan Stobbs following her departure from Crystal Palace.
Stobbs made 17 appearances for The Eagles last season, including 14 outings in the FA Women’s Championship. She brings a wealth of experience with her to The Golden Girls following spells with Reading, Everton, West Ham United and Charlton Athletic.
Watford announced Stobbs’ signing via their official club website this morning. Speaking after completing her move, the player said “It’s a really exciting time for the club. As soon as I spoke to Watford, deep down I knew it was where I was going to be, it was just a case of getting things in place and having the conversations.
“As soon as I spoke to Clinton [Lancaster] I was like, ‘This is where I want to be’.
“What I do like about Watford is I always think there’s a real togetherness already. I’ve seen that over the years as an outsider, so that will take us far.
“It’s about getting the right people in and being the right team through pre-season and hitting the ground running when we are in the league.”
Watford earned promotion from the FA Women’s National League South to the FA Women’s Championship following a successful bidding process for a Tier Two licence and Stobbs’ familiarity with the league could prove invaluable in their inaugural season. With the ever-increasing investment in clubs in the second tier along with the increased professionalism of the league, survival will be no easy feat for Lancaster’s side.
The Golden Girls will complete at their new level next season for the first time since 2017/2018.
