Key first team trio Jas Matthews, Yana Daniels and Jemma Purfield are leaving Bristol City at the end of their contracts, the club have confirmed.
Daniels and Purfield missed just one Barclays FA Women’s Super League game between them last season while centre-back Matthews had appeared for The Robins on 10 occasions in the league before her campaign was curtailed by injury.
With Bristol City having been relegated from the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this season, it has today been confirmed that the three players are all moving on.
Matthews has enjoyed two spells with Bristol City between 2011 and 2018 and between 2019 and 2021. The player has represented the club on more than 100 occasions and held the captain’s armband prior to her injury. The centre-back was an FA Women’s Super League 1 and Women’s FA Cup runner-up in her first spell with the club while she was sidelined for this season’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup final.
Belgian forward Daniels has also had two spells with The Robins. She has netted four league goals in 53 top flight appearances in a Bristol City shirt. The player has almost 50 caps to her name with the Belgian Red Flames.
Full-back Purfield joined Bristol City last summer after leaving Liverpool. The defender impressed with a number of her performances for Bristol City this season and she could yet have a long future in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
Nine players have now left Bristol City since their relegation was confirmed last month. New interim head coach Lauren Smith has a significant rebuilding job on her hands at Twerton Park.
