Reading have completed the signing of experienced forward Natasha Dowie following her release by Italian club AC Milan according to reports on The Royals’ official website.
The 32-year-old former England international announced her departure from her former club earlier today and it has been confirmed that she has agreed to join Reading.
Dowie returns to the English game following a five-year spell playing her football on the continent. During her time away, the player has represented Boston Breakers, Melbourne Victory, Linköping, Valerenga and AC Milan. The forward’s previous experience of the English game includes a spell with Everton where she won the FA Women’s National League Cup and Women’s FA Cup and Liverpool where she was a back-to-back FA Women’s Super League 1 winner.
Dowie has been most effective during the last five years when playing her football in Europe. She netted 10 Damallsvenskan goals in 11 appearances for Swedish club Linköping before bagging 11 goals in 18 outings in the Norwegian top flight for Vålerenga. At latest club AC Milan, the forward managed 12 goals in 21 outings in Serie A.
The striker becomes Reading manager Kelly Chambers’ first signing of the summer. Chambers has made no secret of the fact that she is looking for real quality in the transfer market this summer and the acquisition of Dowie is a prime example of this.
