Chelsea midfielder Wardlaw signs first professional deal

Chelsea midfielder Charlotte Wardlaw has signed her first professional contract with the club according to reports on The Blues’ official website.

The highly-rated 18-year-old, who has been on the fringes of the first team squad for the last two seasons, has agreed an initial two-year deal with the South West Londoners while Chelsea hold the option to extend the arrangement by a further year.

Wardlaw made her senior debut for Chelsea in their 5-1 victory over London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Kingsmeadow in the 2019/2020 FA Women’s Continental League Cup. The youngster played the full 90 minutes of that match. The midfielder has been named amongst the substitutes on three occasions in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League but she is still awaiting her league debut.

After signing professional terms at Kingsmeadow, Wardlaw said “It’s amazing, I feel very proud of myself and I feel very honoured to be offered it.

“Sometimes I feel like I need to take a step back and truly look at what I’ve achieved because when you’re in it, you can sometimes forget how far you’ve come. I’m very grateful to be offered this and I’m very excited to finally be officially part of the team.”

News of Wardlaw’s professional deal comes off the back of goalkeeper Emily Orman signing her first professional contract with the club.
