The Football Association have this afternoon confirmed that the Emirates FA Cup and Vitality Women’s FA Cup finals will be staged at Wembley Stadium over the same weekend for the very first time next season.
Both finals traditionally take place on separate weekends in May each year, however, the 2021/2022 season will see the two finals played over the same weekend for the very first time, providing fans with a real festival of football.
The Football Association issued an official press release earlier this afternoon confirming the news. It has been revealed that the men’s Emirates FA Cup final will take place on Saturday 14 May 2022. The competition will celebrate it’s 150th anniversary next season. The Vitality Women’s FA Cup will celebrate 50 years of the competition later this year and it has been confirmed that next season’s final will take place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 15 May 2022.
Commenting on the news, Kelly Simmons, The Football Association’s Director of the Women’s Professional Game, said “The Vitality Women’s FA Cup Final is one of the biggest occasions in the women’s football calendar and an opportunity to showcase the very best players at one of the most famous venues in world football. I am thrilled that we will have a whole weekend of world-class football at Wembley Stadium and I hope for a really big, vocal crowd to match the spectacle on the field.”
The 2020/2021 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final will be staged on Sunday 5 December 2021 and will coincide with the 100-year anniversary of the banning of women’s football. There are expected to be some organised events to mark the competition’s 50th-year anniversary.
