Manchester City have today announced that Aoife Mannion, Lee Geum-min and Tyler Toland have left the club upon the expiry of their contracts.
Mannion’s progress at The Academy Stadium had been severely hindered by long term injury while Lee and Toland were out of favour and spent time out on loan last season at Brighton & Hove Albion and Glasgow City respectively.
Defender Mannion made three Barclays FA Women’s appearances for the club last season following her return from an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury which she sustained shortly after joining The Cityzens from Birmingham City in 2019. The player managed just 11 outings in total in a City shirt throughout her two-year stay in the North West.
South Korean international Lee moved to England in summer 2019 but has struggled with the step up to Barclays FA Women’s Super League football. Despite failing to make a significant impact with her parent club, Lee has really improved her fitness levels in the last 12 months during her loan spell at Brighton & Hove Albion and her performances have mirrored that improvement. Albion boss Hope Powell is thought to be keen to offer the player a permanent deal at The People’s Pension Stadium.
Teenager Toland also joined City in 2019. She made one Barclays FA Women’s Super League appearance for the club before being loaned out to Glasgow City where she has got some first team experience under her belt. It seems unlikely that the player will remain in the English top flight this season.
The trio leave The Academy Stadium with the club’s best wishes.
