One of the worst kept secrets in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League has finally been revealed with Birmingham City forward Claudia Walker having joined West Ham United.
The Hammers announced the deal via their official website this evening, just hours after Birmingham City confirmed the player’s departure with Walker opting against signing a contract extension at St Andrew’s.
With Walker having ended last season as Birmingham City’s top scorer in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, the player is clearly set to play a leading role for new club West Ham United after being handed the number nine shirt. West Ham United become Walker’s fourth club with the player having also previously represented Liverpool and Everton earlier in her career.
After signing on at The Chigwell Construction Stadium, Walker said “I’m delighted to join West Ham United. It’s a massive opportunity. The ambition that the club has is something that I feel I can not only add value to, but something that I really wanted to be a part of.
“The way that the team plays really suits my style, I like to be aggressive, and look to be in the faces of the opposition at every opportunity so I think I complement the manager’s way of playing.”
Walker is West Ham United’s third summer signing following the recent arrivals of Tameka Yallop and Zaneta Wyne.
