Former Manchester United forward Heath scores comeback goal for United States

Former Manchester United forward Tobin Heath scored on her return to action for the United States in their 4-0 friendly victory over Mexico in East Hartford.

The 33-year-old came off the bench with 17 minutes to go and she made an immediate impact, scoring within a minute of her introduction.

Heath had been sidelined since December due to ankle and knee injuries. The player spent last season at Manchester United where she scored four goals in eight Barclays FA Women’s Super League appearances before her injuries. Heath officially left Manchester United last week alongside United States national team colleague Christen Press.

In addition to Heath, there were some other familiar faces on target for the United States in the first of two Olympic Games warm-up matches against Mexico. Former Manchester City midfielder Sam Mewis opened the scoring after 21 minutes while there was a double for forward Press, a player who is shining in every game for the United States.

Manchester City defender Abby Dahlkemper played the full 90 minutes of the match as she collected her 70th senior cap for her country.

The United States face Mexico again on Monday evening in their second warm-up match before they fly out to Japan for the Olympic Games later this month.
