Watford announce double signing of Fyfe and Smith

Newly-promoted Watford have continued their busy summer of recruitment with the signings of midfielder Flo Fyfe and goalkeeper Mia Smith as reported on the club’s official website.

Forward Fyfe follows former London City Lionesses teammate Ylenia Priest in joining The Golden Girls while 17-year-old goalkeeper Smith joins after spending two years with Bristol City in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

Fyfe began her career with Barclays FA Women’s Super League side Arsenal before making the switch to Oxford United and then joining London City Lionesses. Her latest club Watford certainly need to strengthen going into their inaugural season in the FA Women’s Championship and manager Clinton Lancaster is busy adding plenty of quality as he eyes survival.

The newly-promoted FA Women’s Championship club will be tipped for a relegation battle this season as they begin the process of bedding into an ever-improving division along with fellow promoted side Sunderland. A marker of that continuous improvement has been demonstrated by Coventry United who finished last season second from bottom but they have since announced a wave of impressive additions.

The competition in the FA Women’s Championship has never been stronger, however, Watford’s recruitment strategy of signing recognised talent like Amber-Keegan Stobbs, Priest, Fyfe and Smith could be the edge that Lancaster and The Golden Girls require to secure their second tier status for another season.
