Former Bristol City defender Evans joins Reading

Reading have completed the signing of former Bristol City defender Gemma Evans on a free transfer according to reports on The Royals’ official website.

The 24-year-old Welsh international centre-back was a free agent after leaving Bristol City at the end of her contract.

Evans made 20 appearances for The Robins in last season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League but she was unable to prevent the club from being relegated to the FA Women’s Championship. The defender opted to leave the club after three years as a Bristol City player.

It has today been reported that Evans has joined Reading. The length of her contract at The Madejski Stadium has been left undisclosed by the club.

Evans started her career back home in Wales with Cardiff City Ladies before moving to Yeovil Town in 2017 where she enjoyed her first taste of football in the English top flight. A year later, Evans moved to latest club Bristol City and the player has gone on to represent The Robins on 48 occasions in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League while she scored two goals.

Evans becomes Reading boss Kelly Chambers’ second signing of the summer after the club recently acquired the services of forward Natasha Dowie.
