Former Aston Villa midfielder Amy West has joined FA Women’s National League North club Nottingham Forest on a free transfer according to reports on The Reds’ official website.

The 24-year-old was released by Villa earlier this summer when her contract at The Banks’s Stadium expired. West will now play her football in the third tier this season with Forest.

West was the longest serving player at Aston Villa prior to her departure. She had been on the club’s books since she was just nine years of age and she was promoted to the senior side in 2014. The midfielder has played most of her football in the second tier but she did represent Villa in six Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches last term.

After completing her move to FA Women’s National League North side Forest, West said “It’s a club with ambition and we are really putting things in place to be able to compete and be successful.

“I want to keep developing my game and bring experience into this environment and hopefully contribute to a successful season.

“I’ve heard great things about about how Forest operate and I’ve played with some of the girls in the past so I know it’ll be a place where I can enjoy my football.”

West was one of eight players released by Villa at the end of the season with the club looking to develop further as a top tier side in 2021/2022.
