Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of experienced defender Molly Bartrip according to reports on the club’s official website.
The 25-year-old centre-back moves to The Hive on a free transfer after recently being released by Spurs’ Barclays FA Women’s Super League rivals Reading. Bartrip has signed a two-year deal with Spurs while the club have handed her their number five shirt.
Bartrip spent seven years with former club Reading. The player helped the club to promotion to the top flight in 2015 while her form has been a factor in the club’s continued stay in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
After signing on at The Hive, Bartrip said “I’m excited to join Spurs – it’s a fresh start for me and I’m really looking forward to meeting the players, staff and fans. I can’t wait to get to know everyone in pre-season and then look to start the season strongly.
“I was at Reading for a long time, I grew up as a person and a footballer there but now I’m ready to move on into a different direction. I’m so excited to start here because it’s brand new for me, I’m coming out of my comfort zone and embracing new challenges. I want to get better, I want to develop as a player and I think I’ve got an amazing opportunity to do that here.”
Bartrip returns to the club where she started her career as a youth. The defender also spent time with Charlton Athletic and Arsenal before moving to Reading.
