Lewes have completed the signing of Northern Irish international Rebecca McKenna according to reports on the club’s official website.
The 20-year-old defender joins The Rookettes from Northern Ireland Women’s Premiership club Linfield.
McKenna has been capped by her country at senior level on 16 occasions. The player has featured in Northern Ireland’s qualifying campaigns for the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 and the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022. The defender started both legs of The Green and White Army’s heroic UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 play-off victory over the Ukraine in April.
Rumours that McKenna was set to join Lewes had been gathering for the last couple of weeks in the Northern Irish media and the player has today completed her move to The Dripping Pan.
After completing the capture of the player, Lewes boss Simon Parker said “Rebecca is a player we’ve been watching a lot. She is tenacious with a raw talent we think we can help develop. She’s extremely versatile, young but with a strong character. She is going to be fantastic this year and has huge potential to make a big impact in the league.”
McKenna becomes Lewes’ second signing of the summer. The player joins midfielder Ellie Hack at The Dripping Pan.
