Former London City Lionesses attacker Freda Ayisi has completed the move to Lewes according to reports on The Rookettes’ official website.
The 26-year-old Londoner scored two goals in 19 FA Women’s Championship appearances in her two years with The Pride and she will now be looking to improve her strike rate with new club Lewes.
Ayisi becomes Lewes boss Simon Parker’s third addition of the week following the arrivals of Northern Irish international defender Rebecca McKenna and young midfielder Lara Miller.
After securing the player’s services for the upcoming season, Parker said “Freda is one of the most talented players in this league but has the talent for the league above. I’m already excited by what she’s showed us in training. She has the ability to control and progress play, she beats players, she has vision, she sees passes and scores goals. She’s very exciting.”
Ayisi started her career in the academy system at Arsenal before breaking into the senior team. In 2015, the forward moved to Birmingham City where she spent four years. A one-season spell with Leicester City followed in which Ayisi helped the club bed into the FA Women’s Championship before she joined London City Lionesses ahead of their debut campaign in 2019/2020.
Lewes will be hoping that Ayisi’s arrival can help take some of the goalscoring pressure off Nigerian forward Ini Umotong this season.
