Bristol City squad bolstered by academy quintet

Lauren Smith’s Bristol City squad has been bolstered with the addition of five academy graduates according to reports on The Robins’ official website.

It has been reported that goalkeeper Erin Foley, defenders Naomi Layzell, Brooke Aspin and Maddi Wilde and midfielder Jasmine Bull will all be part of the senior squad this season. The quintet will represent Bristol City on a dual career basis with all of the players currently studying in addition to trying to carve out successful football careers.

The announcement comes as good news for Bristol City with their squad having been severely reduced by the departures of no less than 16 players following the club’s relegation to the FA Women’s Championship at the end of last season.

Speaking about the inclusion of Foley, Layzell, Aspin, Wilde and Bull in the senior squad, interim head coach Smith said “I’ve been really impressed with the attitude and application of all five players so far in pre-season.

“They have all come into the professional set-up and hit the ground running. They all have great potential and I’m eager to see how they develop in our environment.

“A large part of our club ethos is to build a core of talented homegrown players and I’m confident this group can help contribute to our success on the pitch for the season ahead.”

Bristol City have now confirmed 16 players who will represent them in the second tier this season. Interim head coach Smith is expected to boost her side’s ranks further before the new season kicks-off at the end of the month.
