Former Tottenham Hotspur and Birmingham City goalkeeper Sophie Whitehouse has joined Bristol City ahead of the new season according to reports on The Robins’ official website.
The 24-year-old is thought to have been offered a new contract by Birmingham City at the end of the season but she has opted against signing that deal and has now completed a move to Bristol City.
Whitehouse was born in Enfield before growing up in Tanzania. She moved to the United States at a young age where she started her footballing career. The player returned to England in October 2020 where she joined Tottenham Hotspur. During her time at Spurs, Whitehouse provided cover for injured back-up keeper Aurora Mikalsen.
Once Mikalsen returned to full health, Whitehouse moved to Birmingham City where she again found herself used as goalkeeping cover. The player will now be hoping to get some minutes under her belt after joining latest club Bristol City.
After joining The Robins, Whitehouse said “I’m thrilled to make the move across to Bristol City and I’ve enjoyed getting stuck into training with my new teammates over the last couple of days.
“I’m coming into the club eager to learn and develop as a goalkeeper to try and take my game to the next level, and ultimately contribute to the success of the team on the pitch.”
Whitehouse was an unused substitute on 18 occasions in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League last season. The player will be hoping to be selected for her new club for their season opener at Crystal Palace later this month.
