PREVIEW: Manchester United v Liverpool

New Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner will take charge of the team for the very first time when they face Liverpool in a pre-season friendly at Carrington this afternoon.

Skinner was unveiled by The Red Devils at the end of last month and the hard work starts immediately as the club begin their preparations for the new Barclays FA Women’s Super League season which is now just a month away.

Summer signings Vilde Bøe Risa, Hannah Blundell, Sophie Baggaley, Aoife Mannion and Martha Thomas could all play a part for United this afternoon. The Red Devils will be without Olympians Ella Toone and Jackie Groenen. United were without a couple of players due to injury at the end of last season and the condition of those players is not fully known, although forward Ivana Fuso is thought to be back in training.

New Liverpool manager Matt Beard will miss the match due to self-isolation as he looks to make a full recovery from COVID-19. Summer signing Leanne Kiernan was on target for Liverpool against Leicester City last weekend and is likely to feature against United, as are Yana Daniels, Jas Matthews, Carla Humphrey and Rianna Dean. Defender Meikayla Moore is likely to be absent as she recovers from international duty with New Zealand at the Olympic Games.

Manchester United’s pre-season friendly fixture against Liverpool is scheduled to kick-off at midday. The game will be played behind-closed-doors but fans can watch the action live on MUTV.
