Chelsea’s teenage midfielder Wardlaw joins Liverpool on loan

Liverpool manager Matt Beard has further strengthened his side’s ranks ahead of the new season with the addition of midfielder Charlotte Wardlaw from Chelsea according to reports on The Reds’ official website.

The 18-year-old has moved to Prenton Park on a season-long loan deal. Her arrival on Merseyside comes just 24 hours after Liverpool agreed a loan deal for Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Katie Startup.

Wardlaw has been on the fringes of the Chelsea senior squad for the last couple of years and she signed professional terms with the South West Londoners earlier this summer. She has made three senior appearances for the club to date in the domestic cups.

After completing her loan move to Liverpool, Wardlaw said “I’m so excited. It’s a massive club and I’m really honoured to be here to represent Liverpool.

“Matt has set up a team to win and it’s an environment I wanted to be in. I’m looking to get as much game time as possible and put what I’ve been working on into game play, and show people what I can do.”

Wardlaw is able to play in a range of defensive and midfield positions. She has been handed the number two shirt by Liverpool which may be an indication that she could be primarily used in a full-back role this season.
