UWCL DRAW: Manchester City to face Real Madrid, Arsenal paired with Slavia Prague

Manchester City will face Real Madrid while Arsenal will take on Slavia Prague in Round 2 of this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The draw for the new-look Round 2 was conducted by UEFA at lunchtime with both English clubs being handed ties which they will believe that they can win.

Manchester City face a Real Madrid side who are making their UEFA Women’s Champions League debut in this season’s competition. The Whites went through a transformation from their former identity of CD Tacon last summer and finished runners-up to champions Barcelona in the Spanish Primera División last season. The Cityzens have a poor recent record against Spanish opposition in the UEFA Women’s Champions League after being dumped out by Atlético Madrid twice and Barcelona in recent seasons.

Arsenal’s reward for their Round 1 success is a Round 2 tie against Czech club Slavia Prague. The Gunners avoided big guns Lyon, VfL Wolfsburg and Rosengård in the draw, something which will delight the club. Jonas Eidevall’s side have already seen off FC Okhetpes and PSV in this season’s competition in the Round 1 group stage.

Manchester City will travel to Madrid for their first leg while Arsenal will first play at home. The first leg ties will be played on 31 August and 1 September while the second legs will follow a week later.
