Liverpool confirm that summer signing Campbell has undergone surgery

Republic of Ireland international defender Megan Campbell’s rotten luck with injuries has continued with the player having undergone surgery on an ankle problem according to reports on Liverpool’s official club website.

The 28-year-old spent a couple lengthy spells on the sidelines while at former club Manchester City and her luck does not seem to have improved since her move to current club Liverpool this summer.

It has been reported that Campbell sustained her injury in Liverpool’s 3-2 pre-season friendly victory against Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) club Celtic earlier this month. It was determined that the full-back required surgery to address the injury following the match and that treatment has now taken place. Campbell will now spend time rehabilitating on the sidelines. Liverpool have not specified an expectation on her recovery time.

Campbell is one of eight players to have joined Liverpool over the summer. After those injury-plagued campaigns at Manchester City, the defender was eager to make her mark at her new club but she will now be forced to wait patiently for her debut.

The player’s injury is part of a double blow for Liverpool with youngster Evie Smith having also damaged her ankle in the same match.

Liverpool kick-off the new FA Women’s Championship season at home to London City Lionesses this afternoon.
