PREVIEW: Everton v Manchester City

Everton and Manchester City will get an early opportunity to put down a marker in this season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League when the pair meet at Goodison Park this afternoon.

The hosts will be expecting further progress this season following a busy transfer window while Manchester City will have their eyes firmly set upon catching reigning champions Chelsea.

Everton go into the new season with a couple of injury concerns. Defender Leonie Maier is struggling with a thigh problem while Simone Magill has a tendon injury. French international Valerie Gauvin has spent some of pre-season sidelined but is rebuilding her fitness and is expected to fill a spot on the bench. Manager Willie Kirk could offer debuts to up to seven new signings in L4.

The injury situation at Manchester City is a little more severe. Goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck and midfielder Keira Walsh have calf injuries and will not be seen in the opening two rounds of league matches while full-back Lucy Bronze is rehabilitating following planned surgery. Ellen White is doubtful while long term absentee Chloe Kelly continues to be sidelined. New signing Filippa Angeldahl will not play as her international clearance has not yet come through.
