Manchester United will be hoping to make it three wins out of three in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League when they face 2020/2021 champions Chelsea at the Leigh Sports Village on Sunday.
New Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner has started his tenure with victories over Reading and Leicester City and his side now face the ultimate test in the form of last season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League finalists Chelsea.
A number of Manchester United players have been away on international duty but all have returned without any knocks. Full-back Kirsty Smith missed the Leicester City game but could return while centre-back Millie Turner is the one notable absentee with the player sidelined for up to six weeks. Forwards Martha Thomas and Alessia Russo continue to have their fitness carefully managed following various injury problems but are now pushing for starts.
Chelsea make the trip to the North West with concerns over forward Erin Cuthbert who suffered a head injury whilst on international duty with Scotland. Midfielder Ji So-yun returned from international duty later than her teammates and her condition will be assessed. The Blues remain without Norwegian international defender Maren Mjelde who continues to regain her fitness following a serious knee injury sustained last season.
The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Manchester United and Chelsea will kick-off at 12.30pm on Sunday and will be broadcast live on BBC Two.
