Bunny nets treble as Manchester City hop into Vitality Women’s FA Cup semi-finals

Vitality Women’s FA Cup holders Manchester City are into the semi-finals of the 2020/2021 competition after beating Leicester City 6-0 at The Academy Stadium this evening in their long-awaited quarter-final tie.

The Cityzens went into the game without a plethora of stars but they safely negotiated their way to a first win in four games thanks to a hat-trick from Khajida ‘Bunny’ Shaw along with goals from Vicky Losada, Alex Greenwood and Filippa Angeldahl.

After losing three games on the spin, Manchester City went into tonight’s semi-final tie under pressure and they failed to make the breakthrough during the opening 45 minutes. Jess Sigsworth went close for the visitors early on while Jess Park forced a good save from Leicester City goalkeeper Demi Lambourne.

Gareth Taylor’s side were not deterred by their lack of success in-front of goal in the first half and they took the lead in the first minute of the second period through Shaw who tapped in from just a couple of yards.

That goal opened the floodgates with Losada thumping home a fine effort seven minutes later to make it 2-0 and put her side well and truly in the driving seat.

Shaw then struck a third before Alex Greenwood added Manchester City’s fourth goal from the penalty spot after Lauren Hemp was brought down by Esmee de Graaf in the area.

The Cityzens would end the match 6-0 victors thanks to two late goals. Shaw completed her hat-trick after heading home a Jill Scott cross before recent signing Angeldahl netted the game’s sixth goal three minutes from time.

Manchester City will learn of their semi-final opponents once the draw has been conducted later this evening.
