Sheffield United midfielder Lord-Mears sidelined by blood clot

Sheffield United midfielder Rhema Lord-Mears has been sidelined for an indefinite period after discovering a blood clot in her leg according to reports on The Blades’ official website.

The 26-year-old started the first three games of the new FA Women’s Championship season for Sheffield United but she was a notable absentee on Sunday as Neil Redfearn’s side defeated Watford 3-0 at The Technique Stadium in Chesterfield.

The Blades have today confirmed that Lord-Mears’ absence was down to a blood clot discovered in her lower leg and the player is now set to undergo a course of medication which it is hoped will be sufficient to resolve the issue.

Lord-Mears has really grown into the Sheffield United team since arriving from Blackburn Rovers in 2019 and she collected the Manager’s Player of the Season award for her performances last season. The midfielder impressed further during The Blades’ pre-season programme in the lead up to the current campaign, showing a keen eye for the opposition goal.

Sheffield United have set the early pace in the FA Women’s Championship after recording three wins in four games. The challenge is now to stay in pole position but they must do this without midfielder Lord-Mears for the time being.
