Birmingham City aiming for greater possession against West Ham United says Booth

Birmingham City head coach Scott Booth says that he is hoping to see his side enjoy more possession of the ball against West Ham United at The Chigwell Construction Stadium on Sunday.

The Blues have spent the majority of their season so far without the ball with Booth’s side having just 28% possession their most recent fixture against Manchester United at St Andrew’s last weekend.

When speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s trip to West Ham United, Booth said that he is hoping to see his side enjoy more possession of the ball and create a greater threat to the opposition goal

“I’ve watched them (West Ham United) closely and they’re a tough, tough side,” Booth said. “They use the park really well. They’ve got great width with the shape that they play and that opens the game up.

“We will go in with a game plan. It’s a game where we feel that we want to be in possession more, that we want to threaten more again. I think that a number of games that we’ve played, it’s been very difficult to keep possession and to threaten continually, but I think we can do that a little bit more hopefully this game.”

West Ham United manager Olli Harder took charge of the club last December and guided the East Londoners to safety last season before starting to turn the tide this term. Booth went on to acknowledge the good job which the New Zealander is doing at The Chigwell Construction Stadium.

He said “He’s done really well. He has got a reputation as being a really good coach, he’s brought in a lot of new players but I think they’ve done really well.

“They play quite an expansive system when they have possession, as they did against Man City, they are prepared to sit in a block and work hard for each other.”

Birmingham City’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at West Ham United kicks-off at 3pm on Sunday afternoon.
