Manchester United v Manchester City – Stat Attack

The first Manchester derby of the season takes place on Saturday when Manchester United face Manchester City at the Leigh Sports Village.

The Red Devils are yet to defeat The Cityzens in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League but they will arguably never have a better chance to collect three points with the visitors set to be much-depleted due to injuries.

Ahead of the match, FAWSL Full-Time have been looking at the statistics surrounding the fixture provided to us by Opta. Here are four facts which relate to Manchester United’s meeting with Manchester City.

Manchester City are one of two sides who Manchester United are yet to beat in the WSL

Manchester City are one of only two sides that Manchester United have faced but haven’t beaten in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. The Cityzens have won their two home games 1-0 and 3-0 while last season’s meeting at the Leigh Sports Village produced a thrilling 2-2 draw.

The Red Devils are a team in fine form and don’t lose many at home

Manchester United have won six of their last seven Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches with their only defeat in this run being a 6-1 defeat at home to Chelsea last time out. The Red Devils have never lost consecutive home matches in the competition therefore Manchester City will create a new unwanted record for their opponents with a win at the Leigh Sports Village.

Manchester United can add to Manchester City’s record losing run

Manchester City have lost their last three matches in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, their longest-ever losing run in the competition. The Cityzens had only lost four matches in their previous three seasons combined, last losing three in a single season in 2017/2018 (four). Manchester United can add to their neighbours’ unwanted losing record with a first league victory in the derby.

Manchester United forward Toone could haunt her former club

Manchester United forward Ella Toone has been directly involved in 10 goals in her last seven Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches (five goals, five assists). The player has a close connection with Saturday’s opponents with Toone having played five games for Manchester City in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League between May 2017 and May 2018. The forward has never scored against her former club but at some point, that will surely change.

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Manchester United and Manchester City kicks-off at 1.30pm on Saturday afternoon and will be broadcast live on BBC One.
