FA Women’s Championship club Lewes have announced the departure of manager Simon Parker after almost two years in charge at The Dripping Pan.
The news was announced via The Rookettes’ official club website this evening. Parker becomes the first managerial departure of the new season in the FA Women’s Championship.
It has been reported that first team coach Ady Penrose is also leaving the club. Lewes will be appointing an interim manager in due course while they conduct a search for a new first team manager.
Parker took charge of Lewes in January 2020 following the departure of former boss Fran Alonso. He inherited a team that had lost six FA Women’s Championship games on the spin, however, Parker guided Lewes to a goalless draw with London Bees in his first league game in charge to stop the rot. The club played just one more game of the 2019/2020 season before COVID-19 brought the campaign to a premature halt.
Summer 2020 saw Parker oversee the transformation of the Lewes squad and a new-look team went on to make history by finishing last season’s FA Women’s Championship in fifth place, the club’s highest-ever finish. Lewes have also started this season positively by taking seven points from an available 15.
The Rookettes face Charlton Athletic in their next FA Women’s Championship fixture at The Dripping Pan on Sunday.
