Arsenal v TSG 1899 Hoffenheim – Stat Attack

Arsenal are back in UEFA Women’s Champions League action on Thursday evening when German club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim are the visitors to Meadow Park.

The Gunners lost their opening group match 4-1 to European champions FC Barcelona last week and head coach Jonas Eidevall will be looking for a positive reaction from his side.

Ahead of the match, FAWSL Full-Time have been looking at the UEFA statistics surrounding the fixture. Here are four facts which relate to Arsenal’s group game against Hoffenheim.

Past masters against the new kids on the block

Arsenal are the only team in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League to have participated in the inaugural UEFA Women’s Cup in 2001. The Gunners won the competition in 2007 prior to the rebrand. In contrast, Thursday’s opponents Hoffenheim are competition debutants this season.

Arsenal are consistent on home soil in European competition

Arsenal have won eight of their last 10 UEFA Women’s Champions League home games, winning the last three without conceding a goal. Eidevall’s side were 3-0 victors against Slavia Prague in the last round at Meadow Park. The North Londoners are in good form on home soil domestically this season with five wins out of five.

Arsenal’s record against German opposition is poor

Arsenal have faced German opposition on 10 occasions but they have lost seven of those games. The Gunners have lost their last two matches against German opposition while they have lost three of their last four home matches to clubs from that nation. With Hoffenheim being the third ranked German side in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League, Arsenal have a good opportunity to change history.

Beattie set for UEFA milestone

Arsenal defender Jen Beattie will make her 50th appearance in UEFA club competitions should she feature against Hoffenheim. Only Kim Little has made more UEFA club competition appearances than Beattie in the current Arsenal squad.

The UEFA Women’s Champions League group fixture between Arsenal and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim kicks-off at 8pm on Thursday evening and will be available for fans to stream live on DAZN. Tickets for the match can also be purchased by clicking here.
