Two of the FA Women’s Championship’s out of form teams meet at The Sir Tom Finney Stadium on Sunday as Blackburn Rovers take on Coventry United.
Both sides have endured tough starts to the season which has left them hovering in the two places directly above the relegation zone.
Blackburn Rovers have had it slightly better than their opponents with two wins and four defeats so far but they have endured a run of three defeats on the bounce most recently.
Gemma Donnelly’s side have been boosted with the return of winger Aimee Hodgson from injury in recent weeks. She played a cameo role in Rovers’ 1-0 defeat to Lewes last time out. The Lancashire club will be without Emma Doyle, who was forced off against London City Lionesses after tearing her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury while Milly Robertson requires further treatment for a similar injury which she sustained back in 2019.
Winless in their six league games so far this season, Coventry United will be looking to pick up their first three points of the campaign in the North West. The Red and Greens have given themselves a boost of confidence coming into the game after recording an emphatic 3-0 FA Women’s Continental League Cup victory over Watford last time out.
Coventry United did win the last fixture between the two sides at the back end of last season. A 1-0 success secured by a Keeley Davies goal, safeguarded Coventry United’s status in the FA Women’s Championship for another season. Blackburn Rovers have previously recorded one victory in this fixture while there have been two draws.
The FA Women’s Championship fixture between Blackburn Rovers and Coventry United kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon. Blackburn Rovers men’s season ticket holders can gain free entry to the game while cashless turnstiles will also be in operation.
