FA Women’s Championship leaders Durham should hold no fear when they travel to Manchester City on Thursday for their latest FA Women’s Continental League Cup group match according to defender Abby Holmes.
The Wildcats held another top tier side in Manchester United to a 2-2 draw at Maiden Castle in their first group match before going down 5-3 on penalties.
Speaking to FAWSL Full-Time ahead of Durham’s group fixture against Manchester City, defender Holmes said that her side should fear nobody and they are always capable of making their mark.
“I think you should fear nobody,” Holmes said. “It is just another 90-minute game.
“The majority of us work so we are trying to get time off to go down there.
“It will be a good spectacle for the club and let’s hope that we can get another result like we did against Manchester United.”
Manchester City go into the match without eight senior players, seven of which are senior internationals. Holmes went on to say that she sees no reason why Durham can’t go and make another big statement at The Academy Stadium like they did in their first group game.
When asked whether Durham could cause an upset, Holmes said “Yeah, absolutely, we are the underdogs and there is no pressure on us.
“We can hopefully go there and play our game and you never know.”
