Chelsea will be looking to record their fifth consecutive victory in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League when they travel to The Banks’s Stadium to face Aston Villa this lunchtime.
The Blues have bounced back strongly since their opening day defeat at Arsenal and Emma Hayes’ side are well-placed to push The Gunners all the way in the title race.
Aston Villa go into this afternoon’s fixture having suffered back-to-back Barclays FA Women’s Super League defeats to Arsenal and Reading. Head coach Carla Ward continues to be without Australian international forward Emily Gielnik while she has been joined on the touchlines by youngster Olivia McLoughlin who has recently suffered ligament damage. Freya Gregory, Meaghan Sargeant, Ramona Petzelberger, Shania Hayles and Ruesha Littlejohn will all be assessed prior to kick-off.
Chelsea boss Emma Hayes is not thought to have any fresh injury concerns ahead of her side’s trip to The Midlands. Norwegian international defender Maren Mjelde is nearing full fitness but may miss out while Lauren James was involved in the matchday squad at Manchester City last weekend. Hayes could make some changes to her starting XI given the fact that the club have an important UEFA Women’s Champions League tie against Servette FCCF on Tuesday.
The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Aston Villa and Chelsea kicks-off at 12.30pm. Admission will be available for fans who wish to pay on the day.
