‘It’s going to be an interesting battle’ – Spurs boss Skinner previews Aston Villa

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Rehanne Skinner says that this evening’s fixture at Aston Villa will be an interesting one for her side.

Both sides are enjoying improved campaigns so far with Spurs currently sitting in fourth and Aston Villa occupying 10th.

The middle of the table is currently very congested with just four points separating the two sides and Spurs boss Skinner says that this evening’s game will be a really interesting one.

“I think it’ll be a tough test,” Skinner said. “They’ve had some really good results and similar to us, they’ve had a really positive start so I’m sure that they will have a lot of confidence coming into this game and they will want to get another three points on the board.

“I think that it’s going to be an interesting battle, each team have got two games left before Christmas and everybody is going to want to finish on the best possible points that you can before the break. We are expecting a tough test but we are mapping out the things that we can do well so that we can take advantage of the game and then on the day, we have got to put that into practice and hopefully, that will work in our favour.”

Spurs have lost their last two games away from home in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League but Skinner went on to say that you can’t really read anything into any difference in performance away from home.

She said “We’ve got to make sure that we approach it the same way as we do when we are at home. There is a lot of process involved in your preparation for a gameday and we have got to make sure that we get that part of it right going into an away game. The approach to every game is the same and we just weren’t quite at the races in the last one, that happens and you just have to move on from it.

“I don’t think that it is necessarily away games, it was more so the period that we were in that we weren’t quite right that day. Obviously, they were quite far apart so it is not a consistent theme, that is one thing that we are trying to maintain, that those kind of performances aren’t consistent.

“For us, it is about our normal preparation for the game and ensuring that we go there with a positive outcome. We obviously had a positive outcome at Manchester City so it is not about that side of things, we just need to focus on what really matters and execute the game plan when it matters.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at Aston Villa kicks-off at 6pm.
