Crystal Palace have announced the news that Sunday’s FA Women’s Championship fixture against Lewes at Hayes Lane has been postponed due to the current COVID-19 situation.
The Eagles have confirmed that there is illness in the camp due to COVID-19 while some players must adhere to the virus protocols around self-isolation meaning that manager Dean Davenport is unable to field a team for the match. A new date for the rearranged fixture will be announced in due course.
Crystal Palace were able to fulfil their FA Women’s Continental League Cup fixture against Bristol City at Hayes Lane on Wednesday evening, however, they did that with just 12 available players. It is understood that clubs can request for a fixture to be postponed where less than 14 players are fit, healthy and available for selection.
The fixture between Crystal Palace and Lewes is the first COVID-affected match in the FA Women’s Championship this weekend. Liverpool’s home fixture against Charlton Athletic is also off, however, this is down to a fixture clash with the away side instead having to play their Vitality Women’s FA Cup third round tie at Gillingham which should have taken place last weekend.
In the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, Manchester City’s fixture against Reading has also been postponed due to COVID-19.
