Chelsea complete signing of highly-rated Russian full-back Abdullina

Chelsea have completed the signing of highly-rated Russian defender Alsu Abdullina from Lokomotiv Moscow.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the deal via an official club press release earlier today. Abdullina has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal at Kingsmeadow and will officially become a Chelsea player when the transfer window reopens next month.

The 20-year-old primarily operates as a left-back but she can also be moulded into a midfielder should Chelsea manager Emma Hayes wish to utilise this option. Abdullina netted five goals in 23 league outings for former club Lokomotiv Moscow last season as they won the Russian league title. The player also has UEFA Women’s Champions League experience under her belt.

Abdullina is a Russian international who has been capped at senior level on 30 occasions while she has scored three goals. She has been a regular starter for the team in FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand qualifying.

After completing her move to Chelsea, Abdullina said “I am so happy to join Chelsea. This is a big change in my life, a new challenge. I am very proud to be part of this team, which has so many great players.

“I want to continue to develop as a player and progress in London. I want to help the team to win as many trophies as possible.”

Chelsea have handed Abdullina their number 27 shirt and the player could be involved with The Blues for the first time when they face Tottenham Hotspur at Kingsmeadow on 7 January 2022.
