Everton manager Jean-Luc Vasseur says that his team must ride out the storm to enjoy better fortunes in 2022.
The Blue Girls go into the New Year having won none of their last three games in all competitions while they are occupying ninth position in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table despite there being talk of a European challenge before the campaign kicked-off.
New boss Vasseur arrived at the club in early November and has won three of his eight games in charge in all competitions so far. The Frenchman says that his side simply must ride out the current turbulent period to enjoy better fortunes in the future.
“I think that we don’t have good momentum in this moment,” Vasseur said when speaking to FAWSL Full-Time in a recent press conference. “We need to ride out this storm and we know that there are brighter days ahead.
“We are keen to play better in games and record better results in the future.”
The transfer window is just days away from reopening and Vasseur went on to say that Everton could do some business, although getting the players back fully rested is equally as important.
He said “If there is an opportunity to recruit some players then yes, we are going to recruit.
“To start well in January is important and the players being fully rested from the break is important because the first half of this season for Everton has been very difficult. The break is important but the players must not lose sight of the situation and we want to start the New Year with all of them fit, no injuries, then make a strategy for the second half of the season and be better.”
Everton return to action following the Christmas break with a Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Aston Villa on 8 January 2022.
